Sneaker Anatomy
Before you can choose the right pair of sneakers, you need to know a little about the basic components of athletic shoes. The following is a list of the essential elements that make up a sneaker.

Upper
As the name would suggest, this is the top part of the shoe with the laces, fancy designs and bright colors that holds the shoe together and secures the foot to the midsole. The upper provides stability and breathability to your shoes.2 -Toe box
Tip of the shoe that provides needed wiggle room for the toes.
2 - Toe Box
This is the front part of the shoe were your toes sit.
3 - Heel Patch & Side Panels
These parts of the Upper are the prime spots of branding by the manufacturer.
4 - Midsole
The midsole is the padded area between the insole and the outsole that provides comfort, cushioning and shock absorption. The midsole also provides stability for your foot. This is the section of the shoe where the majority of the technology is applied.
5 - Outsole
Durable, outermost portion of the sole that comes into contact with the ground and is treaded for traction. The outsole comes in specific patterns for different sports needs. This part of the shoe is either stitched or bonded to the upper.
Footbed
Sometimes called a Sockliner or Insole. This Portion of the sole that fits inside the shoe to provide cushioning and arch support. There are a variety of insoles and you should choose one based on your individual needs and preferences.
Last
The shape of the sole and the footprint that the shoe is built around. The last can be curved, semi-curved or straight.
6 - Ankle collar
The area around the ankle that’s padded for fit and comfort.
7 - Heel
This is at the rear of the shoe. Manufacturers always concentrate on cushioning in the part of the shoe.
8 - Eyestays
Sometimes called Eyelets. These are used for securing the lace to the upper of the shoe.
9 - Tongue
The tongue or on more modern shoes, the inner sleve. This adds support and provide the foot with a custom fit
